Chlorophylle Park and the restaurant are open on November 10 and 11 and November 16 and 17. Closed on November 9 due to a hunt on the entire site. Parc Chlorophylle is a recreational, educational and artistic forest park of 9ha in the heart of the Ardennes forest, between the Baraque de Fraiture and the Ourthe valley. A 2km educational trail, a beautiful footbridge in the treetops as well as themed playgrounds allow you to discover the forest while having fun. 🕐 Check dates/times on our online calendar. L'Abbaye Notre-Dame du Val-Dieu a été fondée en 1216 Les moines cisterciens s'implantaient dans des lieux « déserts ». Le but était de se retirer du monde et de choisir des lieux peu hospitaliers souvent dans des vallées où le seul moyen de subsistance était de travailler à défricher la terre. Il faut rappeler que le projet cistercien initié par saint Robert de Molesme se voulait un retour à l'idéal de la règle de saint Benoît. La vallée de la Berwinne correspondait à ce modèle. Située à cheval sur le comté de Dalhem et le duché de Limbourg, la fondation du Val-Dieu sera le départ du défrichement qui donnera dans la suite la physionomie si caractéristique du Pays de Herve. Le rayonnement de l'Abbaye était avant tout régional. Lieu de formation spirituelle et intellectuelle mais aussi centre économique pour le plateau, le monastère cistercien n'échappera à aucun conflit: luttes entre seigneurs féodaux, guerres de successions et de religion pour enfin connaître la dispersion lors de la révolution française. Les bâtiments subiront chaque fois le contre coup de ces aléas de l'histoire. L'église sera quatre fois détruite ou incendiée, chaque fois reconstruite pour prendre la configuration actuelle qui reste, pour l'essentiel, comme d'ailleurs les locaux conventuels, conforme au plan cistercien initial. La volonté était d'inscrire dans l'espace et l'architecture la cité idéale où se concrétise la synthèse entre la quête de Dieu et l'épanouissement de l'homme. Après la tourmente révolutionnaire, la restauration de l'Abbaye et le retour de moines au milieu du XIXème permirent au Val-Dieu de demeurer aujourd'hui le seul site cistercien primitif encore en vie en Belgique dans ses bâtiments historiques. Depuis mars 2001 les trois derniers moines ont quitté l'Abbaye du Val-Dieu pour rejoindre d'autres Abbayes Cisterciennes. L'ordre Cistecien choisit de confier l'Abbaye à une communauté de Chretiens.

 In the House of Megaliths you can find informations about Wéris, the megaliths , the village and hiking possibilities in the surrounding countryside. The museum illustrates the way of life of the first farming communities by way of displays, objects, models, reconstructions and an audiovisual presentation. Here in Wéris, a site unique in Belgium lived a Neolithic community some 5000 years ago. These people transported huge blocks of puddingstone rocks downhill to this plateau to build their dolmens (gallery graves) and menhirs (standing stones). We sell maps, brochures, postcards and souvenirs and we have a cafeteria where you can enjoy refreshments. Guided walks are possible when reservations are made, preferably two weeks in advance.

Archaeological collections and scientific research are fundamental to our knowledge of Prehistory. Prehistomuseum leads you into usually inaccessible places, involves you in its experiments and changes your view of the scientific process: Archaeology I Tasks and research; Reconstitutions I experimental archaeology laboratory. Five original and additional experiences are given to heritage. Valued and protected, prehistoric ruins invite wonder and reflection on humanity and its heritage. Heritage in all its forms, even edible, is laid bare: The Cave I archaeological site; Landscape I Walk in a classified site; Collections I Prehistory in perspective; Contemporary art I Ephemeral museum. There is no Prehistomuseum without a practical workshop, hosted by archaeologists! 12 workshops are spread out over the museum's 30 hectares. Hosted by archaeologists, they transform you into flint carvers, prehistoric painters, engravers, sculptors, creators of fire, craftspeople… Together, you sample the daily life of prehistoric Man, and see their skills.
